The girls’ basketball team faced three different teams at a tournament in Clinton in a three-day tournament, January 9th through 12th.

The Eagles went into the tournament with high spirits but came back with a few disappointing losses.

“I thought it would be a difficult tournament,” captain, Payton Langley said.  “We’ve been before and I’ve seen the teams.”

The girls played against Millwood High School, Clinton High School and Noble High School. Each game resulted in a loss.

“Going into the game, I wanted an open mindset with team and have determination to work as a team and do everything right we can to win the game,” Langley said.

Langley was upset with the outcome of the game but that doesn’t stop her from having hope for the future.

“We have to take it one court at a time,” Langley said.

Boys’ coach Wade Wallace observed the game as well.

“It was a rough weekend,” Wallace said. “The girls didn’t get shoot well, turned over the ball a lot and that cost them the game.”

Girls’ coach Misty Wallace agreed.

“I feel we overall could have had a better shooting performance,” Misty said. “By the end of the tour, however, we as a team played better together.”

To help the girl’s improve, Misty Wallace definitely sees more shooting drills in the future during practices.

“I guide them to aim for success on and off the court by trying to teach them to have the same confidence in themselves that I have them, so that they’re comfortable in putting their best foot forward,” Misty said. “Effort and consistency are very important.”

The girls only want to listen to their coach and improve as much as they can.

“We’re a young team and we can only get better from here,” Misty said.
