New year, new track season

Making their way into the new year, the HCP track and field team make a fresh start to a new season.

Coaches Mark Busick and Gabrielle Price have a set goal as the team approaches the 2017 season.

“The goal is to just get a group of kids together that are willing to work hard and to see individual and team improvement overall as well as get as many kids to state as possible. We also have a lot of new students out, so the goal is to start out their track careers,” Price said.

The team is currently in preseason prep with practice a few days a week. Conditioning began on January 9. Conditioning includes running to prepare beginning runners and get them into shape before the first meet. They will begin by running at least two miles and will eventually work their way to five miles.

As the season commences and practice starts picking up to five days a week, the team will be split into more focused groups between sprinters and long distance runners as the running gets more intense and the field activities begin.

Feb 11 – Enid

March 1 – Putnam city west

April 22 – Luther
